Vikram Solar, a Kolkata-based solar panel manufacturer, has appointed Arun Mittal as chief executive officer of VSL Powerhive, its energy storage solutions arm.
As energy storage becomes central to grid stability, peak management, and round-the-clock renewable power, VSL Powerhive positions Vikram Solar as an integrated energy-transition solutions provider.
Vikram Solar plans to set up a 1 GWh, fully integrated solid-state cell and battery manufacturing facility incorporating proprietary battery management system (BMS) technology. The facility will be designed to scale up to 5 GWh, catering to the growing energy demands of a rapidly evolving global market.
The company recently commissioned a new 5 GW solar module facility, more than doubling its module capacity from 4.5 GW to 9.5 GW. It is now executing the next phase of its growth plan with an additional 6 GW of module capacity under development, which will raise total capacity to 15.5 GW. This will be complemented by a 12 GW solar cell facility scheduled for commissioning in FY27.
“Battery energy storage is the backbone of the next phase of the global clean energy transition, and its importance in ensuring reliability and grid stability cannot be overstated. As we expand our vision for a sustainable future, BESS innovation will play a pivotal role in delivering resilient, efficient, and scalable energy solutions for the world,” said Gyanesh Chaudhary, Chairman & Managing Director of Vikram Solar. “Arun’s leadership will accelerate our ambition to create world-class battery capabilities and build a strong, future-ready energy storage ecosystem.”
Mittal brings more than three decades of leadership experience across battery manufacturing, energy storage design, and strategic business transformation. Most recently, as Managing Director & CEO (India) at Lohum Cleantech Pvt. Ltd., he strengthened India operations and advanced cutting-edge models in battery recycling and circular-economy frameworks. Prior to this, he served as Managing Director & CEO, Exide Energy Solutions Ltd, where he played a central role in defining Exide’s lithium-ion mobility storage manufacturing blueprint.
Arun Mittal, CEO VSL Powerhive, said, “Energy systems are rapidly becoming more decentralized and storage-driven. Vikram Solar’s ambition to lead India’s storage solutions landscape will significantly strengthen the value we deliver to our customers. At VSL Powerhive, we are firming up our plans to build scalable solutions that accelerate the energy transition journey which India has committed to.”
