A rare “tie” vote of the Madison County Board blocked an attempt to move forward with a special use permit for a solar farm project in Moro. After an hour-long closed session Wednesday night, no board members chose to speak in public session before casting votes. The move to repeal and rescind November’s denial of the permit application and approve a new one with additional terms, died with an 11-11 vote.
In Madison County, the board chair does not have the power to break ties on such matters. Here’s Chris Slusser after the meeting:
Earlier in the meeting, a handful of public speakers thanked the board for taking a stand against the Moro solar farm in November, due to strong neighborhood opposition. Julie Hamilton called on the county to stand up for residents if lawsuits follow from solar companies:
The extra terms the developer agreed upon this time included: a setback of 335 feet from homes, a modified tree line, and decommissioning bond that covers 100-percent of costs in final de-construction.
