(Dearborn County, Ind.) – An online petition has been launched in opposition of the development and installation of commercial-scale solar energy systems within Dearborn County.
“While we recognize the importance of responsible energy development, we believe that large-scale commercial solar facilities pose significant concerns that outweigh their potential benefits when sited in our county,” reads a portion of the online petition.
The group of residents, landowners and stakeholders are concerned about the permanent or long-term loss of productive agricultural land, adverse impacts to rural character and scenic landscapes, potential reduction in neighboring property values, environmental and drainage issues, increased strain on roads and emergency services, and limited long-term economic benefit to Dearborn County residents.
To date, 215 people have signed the petition.
Those who have signed are urging county officials to enact an immediate and indefinite termed moratorium on the approval and development of large-scale commercial solar energy systems.
