Hospital going green with application for over 1,400 solar panels – Leigh Journal

LEIGH Infirmary has applied for permission to install over a thousand solar panels on its roofs.
The proposed installation of 1,425 solar panels will span various buildings, utilising both flat and pitched roofs.
According to the application, the roofs will be fitted with secured mounting equipment, with additional safety features where necessary.
The central blocks are set to take the majority of the panels, amounting to 663, while the IT building will host 211 panels.
Meanwhile, Leigh Health Centre’s roof will accommodate a further 551 panels.
All installations will be integrated with advanced systems such as SolarEdge optimisers and managers to enhance performance.
The application is currently ‘registered’, which was submitted on December 4 2025, and formally validated on December 18 2025.
The proposal, submitted by Dalkia Energy Services Ltd, falls under ‘permitted development rights’ for solar photovoltaic (PV) equipment unless it affects a listed building.
The panels will be connected to SolarEdge optimisers and managers and inverters for optimal efficiency.
Revolution Energy Services submitted the application on behalf of Dalkia Energy Services Ltd, for the Leigh Infirmary, situated on The Avenue, Leigh.
The plans follow governmental changes which lifted a 1-megawatt generation cap on permitted development rights as of December 21, 2023.
