Solar energy company Afripower has started construction of a 40 MW solar PV plant in Moramanga, Madagascar.
The multi-phase project will add 15MWp to the main grid during the first phase which is slated for completion in early 2026.
The facility will operate alongside the 40MW Mandroseza heavy fuel oil power station to ensure energy security for the island.
Once fully operational, the solar plant will be among Madagascar’s largest and is expected to reduce fuel imports and electricity cost while supporting the country’s broader energy transition and energy access agenda.
