WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The Wisconsin Rapids Common Council has approved a lease for city-owned land to build a solar energy farm. The vote passed the council with a 5-3 decision during Tuesday’s meeting.
Mayor Matt Zacher previously said the development would occupy 40 acres on the city’s southeast side, north of the Ridges Golf Course.
The proposed array could provide the city with about one-sixth of its daily energy use.
The vote was the final step needed for the city to enter an agreement with Great Lakes Utilities to proceed with the project.
