Premier Energies Commissions 400 MW Solar Cell Facility – Construction World

The Hyderabad-based firm aims to more than double its annual solar cell and module manufacturing capacities to 10.6 gigawatt and 11.1 gigawatt, respectively, to meet rising domestic demand. Premier Energies is investing approximately Rs 110 billion to achieve its expansion targets by 2028.
With the commissioning of the new facility, the company’s solar cell manufacturing capacity has increased from 3.2 gigawatt to 3.6 gigawatt, according to Vinay Rustagi, Chief Business Officer at Premier Energies. The 400 MW solar photovoltaic mono PERC cell facility was inaugurated at E City, Maheeshwaram, Telangana, on January 22, 2026.
Solar modules are manufactured using solar cells, which depend on ingots and wafers, making upstream integration a key component of the solar value chain. The Indian government has been encouraging manufacturers to establish domestic cell production capacity to reduce reliance on imports and strengthen supply chain resilience.
Premier Energies currently operates a total solar module manufacturing capacity of 5.1 gigawatt at its Hyderabad facilities, located around 50 kilometres from the solar cell plant. The company is funding its expansion through Rs 13 billion raised via its initial public offering last year, Rs 22 billion in debt arranged with the state-owned Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency, and the remainder from internal accruals.
Looking ahead, Premier Energies plans to expand into ingot and wafer manufacturing to emerge as one of the largest integrated renewable energy equipment manufacturers outside China. By bringing ingot and wafer production in-house, the company expects to gain greater control across the value chain and improve supply reliability for its solar panel operations.
