Missouri Supreme Court rules in favor of homeowners on solar panels – K8 News | Jonesboro, Arkansas

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – The Missouri Supreme Court has ruled in favor of homeowners who wish to install solar panels.
In 2023, a state law took effect that prohibited HOAs from preventing homeowners from installing solar panels. The law allows homeowner associations to have reasonable rules on placement, as long as those rules don’t affect the cost or efficiency of the panels.
After the law took effect, a Springfield homeowner sought to install panels, but the HOA stated the panels could not be street-facing. That rule would have cost the homeowner an extra $17,000 and reduced efficiency by 24%.
The court overturned a lower court ruling that sided with the Springfield HOA. The Supreme Court’s decision reinforces the 2023 state law protecting homeowners’ rights to install solar panels without unreasonable restrictions.
