Credence Solar is preparing to enter the solar cell manufacturing segment, with plans to start operations of its solar cell production line by December this year, according to a management of the firm.
Speaking on the sidelines of Intersolar India, Jinto Joseph, Director – Sales and Marketing at Credence Solar, told Saur Energy that the company has already expanded its solar module manufacturing capacity to 2.2 GW and is now focusing on commissioning its cell manufacturing facility.
“By December, we will have our solar cell line operational. Our module capacity has already expanded to about 2.2 GW, and the next step is to start cell manufacturing,” Joseph said.
The planned move is expected to strengthen the company’s backward integration in the solar value chain, at a time when India is pushing to scale up domestic manufacturing of key solar components.
However, Joseph noted that future expansion plans will depend on market dynamics, particularly as the solar manufacturing sector remains largely policy-driven.
“Currently, the market is witnessing a supply-demand imbalance, with supply exceeding demand. We are closely monitoring the market and will consider further expansion as opportunities arise,” he said.
Commenting on technology trends, Joseph said the solar industry is gradually shifting toward larger wafer formats such as G12 and G12R, enabling manufacturers to produce higher-wattage modules and improve overall project economics.
He also noted that TOPCon technology is gaining traction globally, as manufacturers seek higher efficiencies, although established technologies like mono PERC remain widely deployed across the market.
Credence Solar began its manufacturing operations in 2022 and has been steadily expanding its production capabilities as India works to build a stronger domestic solar manufacturing ecosystem.
