Large solar park proposed in Midland County – WNEM

INGERSOLL TWP., Mich. (WNEM) – A large solar project could soon take shape in Midland County.
Developers are proposing what would be one of the largest solar arrays in the area.
“I can tell you, that the real estate, the land values really weren’t effected,” said Kim Heisler, Ingersoll Township supervisor.
Developers with DTE Electric are proposing the Poseyville Solar Park in Ingersoll Township.
The plan calls for a 129-megawatt solar energy system — covering more than 6,226 fenced acres across multiple parcels near Freeland and Midland.
“It’s 1,200-acres of land that’s actually part of the solar farm,” said Heisler.
Heisler said the project would include rows of solar panels, power inverters and stormwater basins — all designed to generate renewable energy while managing runoff. Supporters said projects like this could help expand clean energy and create new tax revenue for the community.
“Tax revenue will be the biggest thing,” said Heisler. “You’re going to have all this apparatus that’s out there. That they’re going to have to pay a personal property tax on.”
If approved, hundreds of acres out in Ingersoll Township could look very different — with long rows of solar panels stretching across the land.
“It’s pretty good land it’s being put on,” said Heisler. “But, when the farmers over the last couple of years have been making less and less on their property, it’s a way for them to benefit on the ownership of their property.”
Before anything moves forward, the public will have a chance to weigh in. The Ingersoll Township Planning Commission is set to review the request and hear public comment on Monday, March 16 at 7 p.m.
“It isn’t any one single individual,” said Heisler. “It’s a six-person committee and they will have total decision on if it’s a no or go.”
DTE Energy shared a statement on the proposed Poseyville Solar Park:
DTE is committed to collaborating with the local community on the proposed Poseyville Solar Park, prioritizing community needs and achieving beneficial outcomes for everyone involved. DTE’s renewable energy projects help secure generational ownership of farmland while providing significant economic benefits to local communities, including local job creation and tax revenue that supports schools, first responders, veteran and senior citizen services, and more.
The objective of the proposed solar park is to support a balanced energy fuel mix that serves Michigan communities. DTE chose the location based on a variety of factors, including proximity to existing infrastructure, size of available property, and minimal impact to the surrounding environment.
