German facade systems manufacturer Ehret has introduced a new product for building-integrated solar generation, according to a report from pv magazine. The company, in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems, has developed a sliding shutter system that incorporates photovoltaic modules.
The product, named SolarSlide, is designed to function as a solar shading device for windows while simultaneously producing electricity. It is intended for use on both residential and commercial building facades. The system uses square glass-on-glass modules that contain monocrystalline solar cells. Each module is reported to have a specific power output.
Ehret offers two primary versions of the system. The standard configuration is intended for medium-scale installations and requires connection to external inverters and storage. A professional version includes a built-in microinverter and is designed for simpler connection to standard electrical outlets, targeting smaller residential or renovation projects.
The modules are constructed with a colored glass finish that hides the individual solar cells, a feature aimed at architectural integration for new builds or renovations. The sliding mechanism is based on the company’s existing aluminum joinery designs and is built to cover large window openings.
The launch represents an entry into the building-integrated photovoltaics market, where structural elements like sun shades are increasingly used to generate power and improve a building’s energy performance. The system has been available in the French market since the start of the year.
