TOLEDO, Ohio — Thursday afternoon proved to be busy for the Toledo Plan Commission, discussing 13 agenda items spanning from special use permits to zoning changes throughout the city. Three of those agenda items have been making headlines for months.
In south Toledo, the commission tabled a decision on the special use permit for a new gas station and convenience store at the site of a closed TGI Fridays off Bernath Parkway. Now, the outcome of the proposal will be decided in April.
Another big-ticket item was striking down a new 24-hour Sheetz gas station that would’ve replaced part of an old shopping center at three separate addresses on Monroe Street and Nantucket Drive in west Toledo. That decision will go to City Council on April 15, with a 2-to-2 recommendation of disapproval.
The city also weighed a proposal to build a solar farm in a pocket of grassland between the Maumee River and Lotus Avenue in south Toledo. The board decided to defer the decision until next month, when more information could be shared.
“We’re all for solar, but not to have any community meeting explaining the project to us and just thinking that we’re going to accept something in our front yard without knowing more about it. So I think there could be a better site in the south for the solar field,” said Sue Terrill, a homeowner on Lotus Avenue.
The decision will go back to the Plan Commission in April.
