Tesla wants to buy Chinese equipment for the production of solar panels for $2.9 billion – Mezha

Tesla plans to purchase equipment for the production of solar panels and solar cells from Chinese manufacturers, including Suzhou Maxwell Technologies, for $2.9 billion. This is reported by Reuters.
The company’s CEO, Elon Musk, aims to add 100 gigawatts of solar capacity in the United States. Back in January, he said that solar energy could meet all the US electricity needs, including demand from new data centres.
Tesla is considering Suzhou Maxwell Technologies, which is the largest manufacturer of screen printing equipment used to make solar cells, as well as Shenzhen S.C. New Energy Technology and Laplace Renewable Energy Technology. The companies will have to obtain permission from Chinese regulators to sell some of the equipment.
According to Reuters sources, equipment from Chinese companies is expected to be delivered to Texas by autumn 2026. Most of the solar capacity will be used for Tesla’s needs, and a certain amount will be used to power SpaceX satellites.
