An MP congratulated campaigners after a proposed solar farm covering nearly 600 acres of land was scrapped.
Plans for the Ironbridge Solar farm, which would have taken up land south and south-east of Much Wenlock on the Bourton estate, were abandoned by developer Island Green Power following a campaign by the Bourton Solar Farm Action Group.
Stuart Anderson MP raised the issue in Parliament during an Opposition Day debate on November 12, 2025.
He said in the debate: “I have not found one person in the constituency who wants to turn that land into a site for solar energy. It is only the landowner who wants to.
“If we put solar panels all over it, as part of the roll-out of solar at speed… we will be doing so with no regard for local people and what they want for their communities.”
Following the debate, developers contacted Mr Anderson to discuss community objections and Island Green Power has since withdrawn the plans.
Much Wenlock councillor Dan Thomas praised the outcome, saying: “I am delighted the solar company has listened to the overwhelming weight of local concern and abandoned these plans.
“This project was simply the wrong development in the wrong place.”
