Greek utility PPC Group has completed 2,130 MW of photovoltaic plants in Western Macedonia on former lignite mining sites, with an estimated annual output of 3,150 GWh.
PPC Group has completed the construction of its photovoltaic plants in Amyntaio and Ptolemaida, in Western Macedonia, northern Greece. The group announces a total capacity of 2,130 MW, developed on former lignite mining sites, with an estimated annual output of 3,150 GWh, corresponding to nearly 6% of the annual consumption of the Greek interconnected system. According to PPC, these plants cover the needs of approximately 750,000 households and would prevent more than 1,500,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually. In a context of rapid global solar expansion, some emerging economies now surpass major industrialized powers in solar penetration rates. Battery storage investment is also progressing internationally, as illustrated by Transgrid’s securing of up to 2 GW of storage capacity for the New South Wales grid.
