Jakson Engineers Partners with Italy’s Ecoprogetti to Develop India’s First Advanced Solar Module Recycling Facility – Machine Maker

Jakson Engineers Ltd (JEL), a company within the Jakson Group, has entered into an agreement with European technology specialist Ecoprogetti SRL to establish India’s first high-technology photovoltaic (PV) module recycling plant. The initiative marks a significant step toward strengthening sustainable practices across the country’s rapidly expanding solar energy sector.
The agreement was signed by Gagan Deep Chanana, Joint Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Jakson Engineers Ltd, and the Managing Director of Ecoprogetti SRL, in the presence of Bharat Gupta, Director on the Board of JEL. With this partnership, Jakson becomes the first Indian company to acquire an advanced PV recycling solution, reinforcing India’s focus on responsible clean-energy lifecycle management.
Once operational, the facility will have the capacity to recycle approximately 300 MW of solar panels annually, translating to more than 500,000 photovoltaic modules each year. Engineered for high efficiency, the plant will process around 60 panels per hour, handling close to 1.62 tonnes of material per hour and over 13,500 tonnes of PV waste annually.
The facility is designed to address the growing challenge of end-of-life solar panel management as renewable energy installations continue to scale across the country. By enabling scientific, safe, and environmentally sound recycling processes, the plant will help mitigate the environmental impact of solar waste while supporting long-term sustainability in the sector.
Commenting on the development, Gagan Deep Chanana said the investment represents a meaningful milestone in India’s clean-energy journey. He noted that recovering valuable materials such as aluminium, glass, silicon, copper, and silver will reduce reliance on virgin raw materials and help move the solar industry toward a more circular and resource-efficient model.
Bharat Gupta added that as India’s solar capacity expands, effective management of decommissioned modules will be critical to the sector’s resilience and sustainability. He highlighted that the facility will divert thousands of tonnes of waste from landfills each year while reintegrating essential materials into the manufacturing value chain, ensuring solar energy remains sustainable throughout its lifecycle.
