PLYMOUTH — State Sen. Henri Martin has submitted a letter in opposition to proposed construction of a solar farm on Preston Road, citing environmental impacts.
The proposal, “Connecticut Petition No. 1696,” proposes creating a solar farm at 270 Preston Road. In Martin’s letter to the Connecticut Siting Council, he outlines his reasons for opposing the development.
Martin, a Republican who represents Plymouth as well as Bristol, Harwinton, Plainville and Thomaston, said he is a supporter of renewable energy projects. But, he said, this proposal “raises multiple concerns.”
“Among the concerns are that it would be built in an established residential neighborhood,” Martin said. “It would also increase stormwater runoff and negatively impact downstream properties. These factors would negatively impact the quality of life for Plymouth residents as well as their safety. For these reasons, I join the Town of Plymouth in requesting that the Connecticut Siting Council deny the application for a solar installation at 270 Preston Road.”
According to the filing for “Connecticut Petition No. 1696,” the project was proposed by “Terryville Solar One, LLC.” It asks for “election to waive exclusion” from Connecticut Siting Council jurisdiction. The petition states their intention is the construction, maintenance and operation of a 0.975-megawatt AC solar photovoltaic electric generating facility.
The petition was received on Nov. 14. Martin filed his letter this past Friday.
