MADISON (WKOW) — New Year’s Eve is the last day people will be able to get a 30% tax incentive from the federal government for installing residential solar panels.
The tax incentive was first passed by the Biden Administration in 2022 and eliminated as part of President Donald Trump’s cuts from his spending bill signed in July.

Midwest Solar Power in Madison focuses on solar panel installation on homes and businesses.
Business Development Lead Barrett Lione-Seaton helps manage solar panel installation and says business has been through the roof since President Trump’s announcement came in July.
“By the end of July, we were booked for all of 2025 and then we’re actually now being almost booked into June of next year,” Lione-Seaton said.
Despite the common slow-down in winter for solar installation, he says he’s not concerned about his solar company losing business.
But Lione-Seaton says it will put a damper on customers looking for the extra cash if deciding to go solar.
Wisconsin still provides a small incentive for customers installing solar on their homes.
Lione-Seaton says his company is already thinking of ways to make sure customers are saving some cash in the new year.
One of his biggest tactics is to retain their employees and allow them to become more efficient and faster at their craft.
“We have crews that have been here for more and more time, and the longer they’re here, the better they become,” Lione-Seaton said. “We know how to design a system better for our crews to install. What that means is we can actually do more work in one day, and by doing that, we’re able to bring our costs down.”
In September, Electric Vehicle (EV) tax incentives ending was another part of President Trump’s spending bill signed in July.
