Two major solar power projects are in the planning stages in Wicomico and Worcester counties, and residents will get a second opportunity to comment on the Wicomico project at a virtual hearing soon.
Here’s what to know about both of those projects, and how to join in the upcoming virtual hearing.
Wicomico solar power project planned for property on Nanticoke Road
Local residents and other interested members of the public are invited to comment on a proposal by Nanticoke Road Solar 2, LLC to construct a 5.0 MWAC (MegaWatt Alternating Current) solar generating facility in Wicomico County. The virtual hearing will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 7, at 6 p.m. before Public Utility Law Judge Christine L. Burke.
In July 2025, the developer applied to the Maryland Public Service Commission for what is known as a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity, which grants an applicant the authority to construct an energy generating station in Maryland. According to the application, the developer proposes to build the project, intended as part of Maryland’s community solar program, on about 33 acres of a nearly 42-acre property at 28260 Nanticoke Road in Salisbury.
The project applicant is Wicomico Rayne Solar, LLC. A previous virtual hearing for this project was held. Dec. 3.
In addition to taking comments from the public, the Jan. 7 hearing will include a presentation by the applicant, brief statements by the parties, including the Power Plant Research Program of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, and the commission’s technical Staff, as to their respective roles in the case.

- Click on ‘Case 9806′, and the hearing date and time (Jan. 7 at 6 p.m.);
- Click ‘Next’, enter name and email
- Click ‘Schedule Event’
- Once the sign up process is complete, registrants will receive a Zoom link.

In addition to the hearing, written comments can be sent electronically through the Commission’s online portal at https://www.psc.state.md.us/make-a-public-comment/, or by mail. Comments sent by mail should be addressed to: Jamie Bergin, Chief Clerk, Maryland Public Service Commission, William Donald Schaefer Tower, 6 St. Paul St., 16th floor, Baltimore, Md. 21202. So that they are noted in the proper case file, all comments should reference Case No. 9806.
In addition to the online docket, the application is available for review at the Wicomico County Department of Planning and Zoning, 125 North Division St. (Suite 203) in Salisbury.
Major solar project planned for Berlin in Worcester County
Along with Wicomico County project, there’s also a major solar power project in the works for Worcester County.
Searchable at the Maryland Public Service Commission’s website as case 9826, the Worcester County project is described as an application to construct six co-located solar photovoltaic generating facilities totaling up to 18 MWAC in the town of Berlin, Maryland.
According to a Maryland PSC spokesperson, the applicant’s petition reads “The projects are anticipated to occupy approximately 112.84 acres along Main Street (MD Route 818), northwest of the intersection of MD Route 50 and MD Route 113, and described by Tax Map 20, Grid 20, Parcels 49 and 54 in the town of Berlin, within Worcester County (“the property”). The parcels are zoned within the Industrial (M-1A) Zoning District.”
The applicants for the Worcester County project are Soltage MD DevCo, LLC and Berlin Living, LLC.
