Mexico is advancing construction of a massive solar project not far from the Arizona border.
Sonoran Gov. Alfonso Durazo says the solar farm near Puerto Peñasco, or Rocky Point, will generate energy for 250,000 homes in his state.
Durazo says the Mexican government is investing more than $300 million in the third stage of construction of the solar farm, which already consists of panels covering a wide swath of desert around 70 miles south of the Arizona border.
The solar project in the Mexican state of Sonora is one of the biggest in the country. Durazo says that once it’s completed, it will reduce carbon emissions by up to 1.4 million tons a year.
