COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Utah-based solar panel company is being sued by Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost for allegedly using illegal, high-pressure sales tactics and misleading claims.
The alleged misuse of business tactics has resulted in high utility bills and debt for Ohio consumers.
“This was a galactic misrepresentation of what the company could and should do,” Yost said. “Instead of soaking up the sun, these consumers got burned.”
G-3 Solar claimed the system would eliminate or reduce electric bills; generate enough energy to offset utility costs and generate savings over time, the suit alleges.
Customers say the panels did the opposite of what G-3 said they would, resulting in their going into debt to pay for the panels. They also alleged there was confusion about how the payment plans worked for the installation and the panels themselves.
The suit accuses the solar company of misleading Ohioans about the availability of tax credits for using its product.
All the accusations against G-3 are violations of the Ohio Consumer Sales Practice Act and the Home Solicitation Sales Act, according to Yost’s office.
