30-acre brush fire breaks out at Lake Placid solar farm – wtsp.com

LAKE PLACID, Fla. — Highlands County Fire Rescue responded to a 30-acre brush fire overnight at a solar farm in Lake Placid.
According to the agency’s post on Facebook, the blaze broke out just after 10 p.m. Wednesday at the Next Gen solar farm. The Florida Forest Service was still at the scene at 9 a.m. Thursday as a small section of an empty field continued to burn.
In an update, Highlands County fire crews said the solar farm is under construction, and the equipment is not operational. They added that the solar panels were not on fire, but instead the grass underneath the panels.
Investigators did not reveal the cause of the fire.
