State regulators issued a permit for a solar energy plant in southern West Virginia on Wednesday.
Authorization was provided to New York-based Twisted Gun Solar for a 140-megawatt plant in Mingo and Logan counties, according to a news release from the West Virginia Public Service Commission.
The news release said the plant would built south of Chauncey, partially on a reclaimed surface mine and include an array of more than 300,000 solar modules capable of powering 84,000 homes daily.
The PSC said the project would link with Appalachia Power’s Pigeon Creek substation in Logan County.
Company officials expect the operation to generate more than 1,000 jobs and provide more than $2.4 million in annual earning for the state.
The company plans to begin construction in early 2027 and become operational in late 2028.
Regulators said the plant will not impact rates for West Virginians.
