Williams County issues moratorium on solar farms, battery storage sites – KFYR-TV

WILLISTON, N.D. (KUMV) – Williams County Commissioners approved a pause on certain types of energy projects through the end of the year.
That means the county will not look at proposals for projects involving solar farms and battery energy storage systems.
County Development Services Director Kameron Hymer said it’s to give staff time to develop regulations as more projects attempt to come to North Dakota.
“I think that should be a sufficient amount of time. Unlike data centers, we have found that other areas in western North Dakota have regulations in their zoning ordinances for these, so I think we can work on some of those for good ideas,” said Hymer.
Hymer said there are no active applications involving these types of projects, but there is interest.
Other counties in western North Dakota have discussed projects over the past couple of months.
