Concerns have been raised over a proposed solar farm by a Monmouthshire politician who says it could compromise environmental protections.
Peter Fox, MS for Monmouth, questioned the Welsh Government on the Candwr Solar Farm plan during a session with the Deputy First Minister on Wednesday.
The proposed development would see more than 300 acres of land near Ponthir converted into a solar farm, spanning parts of Monmouthshire, Torfaen and Newport.
Mr Fox said: "We all accept the need to transition to renewable energy, but this cannot come at any cost, especially with the careless disposal of prime land."
He said environmental safeguards risk being overlooked in the rush towards renewables, calling for a more balanced approach.
Mr Fox said: "It makes no sense to me that we should be sacrificing one set of environmental principles in the pursuit of another, and I think there needs to be a careful review of how projects and applications such as this are managed."
