India’s domestic solar module manufacturing capacity has climbed to 144 Gigawatts, positioning the country to expand exports, Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi informed the Lok Sabha during Question Hour, DD News reported.
Joshi noted that solar power generation in India previously stood at just six to seven Gigawatts, but the sharp rise in manufacturing capacity has significantly strengthened the country’s renewable energy capabilities.
Highlighting government spending, the minister said that only Rs 856 crore had been allocated to renewable energy over a decade under the Congress-led government. In contrast, he stated that more than Rs 1.27 lakh crore has been committed to renewable energy production during the past eleven years under the NDA government.
He added that the government has supported transmission infrastructure through the Green Energy Corridor projects, providing Rs10,000 crore to states under Phase I and allocating Rs 12,000 crore for Phase II.
