Jupiter International Commissions Third Solar Cell Manufacturing Unit in Himachal Pradesh – Chemical Industry Digest

Jupiter International Limited, a solar cell manufacturer, commissioned its third solar cell manufacturing unit in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, significantly expanding its production footprint and strengthening its position in India’s fast-growing renewable energy sector. With this latest addition, the Kolkata-based company takes a major step toward scaling domestic solar manufacturing and supporting the country’s clean energy transition.
The newly operational unit adds 1 GW of mono PERC solar cell capacity to Jupiter’s existing 959 MW production base, increasing the company’s total installed capacity to nearly 2 GW. Developed by Jupiter Solartech Private Limited (JSTPL)—a wholly owned subsidiary of Jupiter International—the facility marks one of the company’s largest capacity expansions to date. As a result, Jupiter significantly strengthens its ability to meet rising demand from India’s utility-scale and rooftop solar markets.
Strategically located in Baddi’s industrial hub, the new plant uses high-efficiency mono PERC technology. It enhances energy output while improving reliability and performance.
By adopting advanced manufacturing processes, the company aims to:
*Improve productivity
*Maintain global quality standards
*Increase cell efficiency
*Strengthen export competitiveness
The technology-driven approach helps Jupiter align with international benchmarks while supporting India’s push for self-reliance in solar manufacturing.
As reported by thehindubusinessline.com, Jupiter is accelerating its long-term strategy for vertical integration and next-generation solar technologies. As part of this roadmap, the company is setting up an additional 1.25 GW TOPCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact) solar cell line. The new line offers higher efficiency and improved performance compared to conventional technologies. The new TOPCon facility will help Jupiter stay ahead of evolving market demands. It will also strengthen its technology leadership in the solar value chain.
Alok Garodia, Chairman and Managing Director, said, “The commissioning of Unit-III at Baddi is a major milestone in our journey to scale the company’s solar manufacturing capabilities. This expansion reaffirms Jupiter’s commitment to delivering world-class clean energy technologies that are Made in India, for India, and for the world.”
