The Energy Commission received a preliminary presentation Thursday night on a proposal to install solar panels at Bristol Central High School and Bristol Eastern High School.
The project, which would be completed by Greenskies Clean Energy LLC, would take advantage of Eversource’s NRES program, which has a March 17 deadline, as well as the 40% federal Investment Tax Credit, set to expire July 5.
Adam Teff of TitanGen presented the proposal to the commission via Zoom. Teff said Greenskies would own and operate the equipment at no cost to the city. Construction is planned for the summer to avoid disruptions to the school year and to meet program deadlines.
According to Teff’s calculations, installing rooftop solar panels at Central and Eastern would lower the Board of Education’s cost per kilowatt-hour, resulting in significant long-term savings.
“Being able to cut your costs down that much with a system size like this yields $112,000 savings in year one and then extrapolate it out over a 20-year period,” said Teff. “It’s about two and a half million dollars within that 20 year.”
