A plan to put 175 solar panels on a local centre’s roof has been withdrawn by Stockton Council for changes to be made to it.
The authority had submitted a “prior notification application for the installation of 175 roof-mounted solar photovoltaics (PV) panels” at the Allensway Centre, Allensway, Thornaby. The council said the anti-glare solar PV panels will be installed on the pitched roof.
The proposal said the panels could produce 78.75kWp in electrical generation capacity. It said no part of the equipment would come within a metre of the external edge of the roof, nor protrude more than 0.2m beyond the plane of the roof slope, and a consultation on the plan expired on March 6.

But in a letter published on the council’s planning portal today (March 9), planning services manager Simon Grundy wrote: “I have noted your request to withdraw the application and will take no further action in the matter. I have amended my records accordingly.”
Asked about the plans, the council said the application had been withdrawn as it needed some amendments, and a full planning application would be submitted shortly for the project.
