Samsung C&T Renewable Energy Australia (SREA), Samsung C&T’s renewable energy subsidiary in Australia, accomplished the first tangible milestone in its solar PV development business in Australia. The company completed the sale of a solar power and battery energy storage system (BESS) project. The project developed in Dunmore – located west of Brisbane in Queensland – was sold to Octopus Australia, the Australian subsidiary of UK-based Octopus Group.
The project, which combines a 300MW solar PV asset with a 150MW/300MWh BESS on the 538-hectare site, can power approximately 60,000 Australian households annually.
Since 2010, Samsung C&T has developed and operated large-scale wind and solar power cluster in Canada. Samsung C&T’s primary focus has been on greenfield development across the solar PV and ESS value chain. The company has engaged in the pre-Notice to Proceed (NTP) process, which involves tasks such as title securing, grid connection survey, licensing, etc. After going through such a process, the company has generated revenue from selling developed assets to a third party.
Samsung C&T began expanding its renewable business in earnest with its entry into the US solar PV market in 2018. In 2022, the company established SREA to tap into the Australian market. Following the Dunmore project, it is actively developing solar PV and ESS projects across Australia including Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria.
Building on its proven track record in the US and its recent success in Australia, Samsung C&T aims to broaden its business scope further to joint project development, as well as solar PV and ESS operations.
