EcoFlow OCEAN 2: New 3-phase solar and storage system with backup power function presented – Basic Tutorials

With EcoFlow OCEAN 2, the manufacturer EcoFlow is expanding its portfolio in the field of home storage and solar energy. The new system combines photovoltaics, battery storage, energy management and backup power supply in an integrated solution for residential buildings. The provider relies on a scalable architecture, modern LFP battery technology and intelligent control of energy flows in the household. The aim is to enable both high solar yields and a reliable power supply – even in the event of grid failures.
With the EcoFlow OCEAN 2, the manufacturer is launching a fully integrated system on the market that is designed for flexible use of solar energy in private households. The system is available in four power classes: 6, 8, 10 and 12 kW. At the same time, it supports a maximum PV input power of up to 24 kW, which means that even larger photovoltaic systems can be used efficiently.
Three independent MPP trackers are available for flexible configuration of the solar modules. These enable optimized energy yield even with complex roof structures or different module orientations. In addition, a starting voltage of 120 volts ensures that electricity production can begin early in the day.
A key feature is the integrated backup power function for the entire household. With an output of up to 63 amps, the system can take over the supply of important consumers in the event of a power failure. Under certain technical conditions, the switchover even takes place without any noticeable interruption (0 ms switchover time), according to the manufacturer. For longer power outages, OCEAN 2 also supports ATS-capable generators and the integration of inverters from other manufacturers.
In addition, the system remains compatible with the previous EcoFlow series, allowing existing installations to be expanded or modernized. This facilitates both future upgrades and integration into existing energy systems.
In addition to the solar output, the EcoFlow OCEAN 2 focuses primarily on the flexible storage structure. The system is based on LFP battery technology (lithium iron phosphate), which is known for its long service life and high level of safety. According to the manufacturer, more than 10,000 charging cycles are possible.
The storage solution has a modular design. Up to twelve battery modules can be integrated per inverter. Each module has a capacity of 5 kWh and delivers a nominal discharge power of 3.4 kW. This allows the storage capacity to be gradually expanded and adapted to the household’s energy requirements.
EcoFlow also sets high standards in terms of robustness. The system has protection class IP66 and is therefore protected against dust and strong water jets. It also comes with a 15-year guarantee. A multi-level safety concept with arc detection and continuous system monitoring is designed to minimize risks.

Another component is the EcoFlow HEMS (Home Energy Management System). This analyses energy production, consumption and electricity prices in order to optimize the use of solar power and battery storage. According to the manufacturer, the system supports over 500 dynamic electricity tariffs in Europe and uses forecasts for solar yield and electricity consumption with an accuracy of up to 90 %.
OCEAN 2 can also be integrated into existing smart home or energy management systems via cloud API and Modbus interfaces. According to the manufacturer’s calculations, savings of up to 77.6% on electricity costs are possible in combination with the storage system.
With EcoFlow OCEAN 2, the manufacturer presents a powerful 3-phase solar and storage system for modern households. The combination of high PV output, modular LFP storage technology, integrated backup power supply and intelligent energy management makes the system particularly flexible. Thanks to simple installation and cloud monitoring, the solution is also aimed at installation companies and smart home integrations. OCEAN 2 is available via the EcoFlow partner network; specific prices depend on the system configuration and installation.
