The Government of India has been preparing a new version of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) scheme. Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) Pralhad Joshi has said the proposal was submitted as the current programme approaches its implementation deadline. The PM-KUSUM scheme was launched in 2019 with an outlay of INR 34,422 crore targeting installation of 34.8 GW solar capacity by March 2026. Government data has shown that more than 10 lakh standalone solar agricultural pumps were installed while over 13 lakh grid-connected agricultural pumps were solarised across India. The proposed new version of the PM-KUSUM scheme is expected to include a dedicated 10 GW agri-PV component supporting co-location of solar panels with crops.
