Port of Bilbao trials modular floating solar pilot to test sea‑ready PV scale‑up – Splash247

Landatu Solar has deployed a 12 x 12 m modular floating solar pilot in the Santurtzi dock at the port of Bilbao to test a sea‑adapted photovoltaic system under real wave, wind and corrosion conditions. The stretched‑membrane, mesh and buoyant outer‑frame design is intended to flex with dynamic loads while using simple, transportable components to cut installation time and logistics. The trial is part of the Seamod project, supported by the Basque Government’s Hazitek 2024 programme and co‑financed by the Basque Government and the EU’s ERDF.
The pilot will gather structural and operational data to assess anchoring complexity, durability and performance in a marine environment and inform later scale‑up phases and integration with other offshore renewables such as wind.
“The proposed solution is designed as a system that can be scaled up and integrated with other marine renewable energy sources, such as offshore wind, to facilitate the energy transition,” the project statement said.
