Solar energy projects are coming to Hampshire.
Two major solar farms near Andover and Winchester are set to bolster Hampshire’s role in the UK’s switch to cleaner energy, after securing government-backed support and local planning consent.
Lains Farm, near Andover, and South Lynch Farm, to the west of Winchester, have both been awarded long-term inflation-linked Contracts for Difference under Allocation Round 7a, giving the schemes revenue certainty and paving the way for construction as early as 2027, subject to a final investment decision.
A Uniper spokesperson said: “We’re proud to be investing in Hampshire’s low‑carbon future. These solar farms will help deliver affordable, sustainable energy for thousands of local households.”

Lains Farm has permission from Test Valley Borough Council and is designed to generate up to 24.38MWp of renewable electricity, enough to power around 10,000 homes each year.
South Lynch Farm, approved by Winchester City Council, has a potential capacity of 20.31MWp, supplying the equivalent of about 8,500 homes.
Both schemes were originally brought forward by renewables developer Innova before being acquired by energy company Uniper as part of a wider solar portfolio.
The developer has said the Winchester project will deliver significant biodiversity gains on former agricultural land, with enhanced habitats, strengthened hedgerows and funding for local community initiatives.
