According to a report from pv magazine, Chinese solar tracker manufacturer Arctech Solar has introduced a new cleaning robot for photovoltaic plants in Europe. The system, named Star Shine I, is designed for utility-scale solar installations and features an autonomous operating system.
The robot performs timer-controlled dry cleaning and moves at speeds between 10 and 18 meters per minute. Its design supports cleaning routes as long as 3 kilometers for round trips along module rows, with a capability to travel up to 9 kilometers in one direction. The manufacturer states the system can operate on module tilt angles from 10 to 30 degrees, handle slopes over 20 degrees, and overcome obstacles up to 50 millimeters high.
Physically, the Star Shine I unit measures 2,685 millimeters by 495 millimeters by 430 millimeters and has a weight of approximately 38 kilograms. It is built to function in temperatures from -20 to 60 degrees Celsius and in humidity levels reaching 99 percent.
Key operational features include autonomous navigation and a dual-link mechanism for integration with solar tracking systems, allowing coordination with module structures. The robot uses an electronic control system with a 24-volt operating voltage and a current draw of 2 to 3 amps, powered by either 12 or 24 amp-hour batteries. The smaller battery provides a round-trip range of about 2.2 kilometers, while the larger one extends this to up to 4.5 kilometers.
Additionally, the system can be integrated with monitoring platforms via SCADA systems for remote supervision. Plant operators can manage the robot through various interfaces, including web-based platforms and mobile applications.
