A recent report from Eturnity and the Bern University of Applied Sciences indicates that back-contact solar modules held a dominant position in the Swiss market last year. The Photovoltaik Barometer 2026 shows that manufacturers Aiko Solar and Longi together secured more than half of the national market share, with Aiko holding a slightly larger portion than its competitor.
The market presence of back-contact module producers grew substantially from 2023 to 2025. In the prior year, Longi and Aiko Solar held shares comparable to other major manufacturers like Trina Solar and JinkoSolar, with these four companies collectively representing nearly seventy percent of the market. Aiko Solar was not present in Switzerland in 2023, while Longi was supplying a different panel technology at that time.
According to the report’s analysis, the Swiss photovoltaic market is overwhelmingly composed of rooftop installations. With module costs now sometimes representing a minor component of total project expenses, system efficiency has become a critical selection factor. The report suggests the market is prioritizing high efficiency, which currently aligns with back-contact technology, rather than specifically seeking that module type.
The study also notes a shift in system design parameters. The nominal power ratio of photovoltaic installations in Switzerland has declined from 2017 to 2023. This change reduces peak power impact on electrical networks, enhancing grid compatibility for new systems.
Data indicates the average DC power per maximum power point tracker has risen modestly over time. Systems equipped with two trackers have become standard, while installations with three or four are more frequently used for complex projects.
Inverter supplier Huawei has expanded its Swiss market share considerably, now representing approximately half of the market. Other suppliers have seen steady declines, with only temporary gains for some manufacturers.
A separate clear trend is the rising integration of battery storage with new photovoltaic systems. Industry statistics show the number of operational storage units increased significantly from 2023 to 2024. By last year, over seventy percent of photovoltaic systems were offered with a storage option, although a notable proportion of customers ultimately selected systems without storage.
