Swish Solar, a Canadian startup, is creating technology to optimize cleaning for large solar power plants. According to pv magazine, the company’s software, called SwishOS, uses artificial intelligence and data analysis to schedule panel cleaning. The aim is to reduce energy losses from dirt and to lower operational expenses associated with maintenance.
The platform is designed to forecast soiling and manage cleaning at what it determines to be optimal times. It functions without requiring new hardware, instead utilizing existing operational data and local cost inputs like water and labor. The software allows operators to see the financial impact of various cleaning schedules, comparing maintenance costs against the value of energy that would be regained.
The tool calculates ongoing performance gains and soiling losses in monetary terms. It is built to integrate with existing solar farm management systems. The company reports it has obtained initial customers with solar assets in North America and the Middle East. Pricing for the software varies with the size of the solar plant.
Swish Solar was established in 2024 and holds four patents that are pending. It has received $1.5 million in a pre-seed financing round from investors in Canada and the United States. Separately, the startup is working on an anti-soiling polymer film named SwishScreen for solar panels, which uses an electric charge for cleaning. Early versions of this film are being tested in Saudi Arabia.
