Church leads the way in sustainability with 90 solar panels – Yahoo News UK

A church is leading the way in sustainability with a new renewable energy upgrade.
Pattern Church in Swindon has become more energy efficient after the installation of 90 solar panels.
The panels were fitted last autumn on the roof of the church, which sits opposite the Swindon Designer Outlet on Penzance Drive, to help cut carbon emissions and reduce energy costs.
Councillor Emma Bushell, deputy leader of Swindon Borough Council and ambassador for its Greener Swindon mission, recently visited the church to see the new installation and meet with associate minister Rev Kaf Smith.
Cllr Bushell said: "Pattern Church is doing some impressive work, not just within the local community but also on sustainability.
"Adding rooftop solar panels proves that traditional buildings can be sensitively upgraded to meet modern sustainability standards without compromising their character or heritage.
"Also, switching to renewable power gives the church energy independence at a time of increasing global energy security risks and price volatility."
The project supports Swindon Borough Council's decarbonisation framework, adopted last December, which aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions and boost residents' quality of life through partnerships with communities and businesses.
Pattern Church’s efforts also demonstrate the potential for older buildings to be retrofitted for sustainability without losing their historical or architectural value.
