PLANS to fit to 1,217 solar panels to the roof of York Hospital have been approved.
The works are set to see panels capable of generating almost 560kWp put on the roofs of buildings at the hospital’s Wigginton Road site.
York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s application stated the works aimed to help them achieve their decarbonisation and net zero goals.
Plans approved by City of York Council are set to see arrays of panels put on top of eight buildings on a mix of flat and pitched roofs.

No objections were lodged against the plans.
Planning officers stated the panels would not detract from the hospital’s buildings or the character of the wider area.
They added they featured an anti-reflective coating to minimise the glare from sunlight.
Officers said: “The site is sufficient separated from neighbouring buildings and the details provided to include an anti-glare protection in the design would prevent any unwanted glare.”
The hospital trust’s plans stated the panels would cover a total area of 2,431sqm.
They added the panels would save an stop an estimated 104 tonnes of CO2 from going into the atmosphere every year.
Plans stated: “The proposed installation is in support of the trust’s targets of achieving net zero carbon and assisting with their decarbonising agenda.”
