Global solar module manufacturer Canadian Solar Inc. has set a 2026 target of supplying 6.5–7.0 GW of solar modules and 4.5–5.5 GWh of battery energy storage solutions to the United States (US), as the company ramps up local manufacturing and deepens its presence in the fast-growing storage segment.
The guidance comes alongside a broader strategic realignment of its U.S. operations. In December 2025, Canadian Solar established CS PowerTech Inc., a U.S.-focused joint venture in which it holds a 75.1% controlling stake, to oversee domestic manufacturing and sales of solar modules, cells and energy storage systems.
The company is scaling its U.S. manufacturing footprint, with a 5 GW module facility in Mesquite, Texas, set to expand to 10 GW by the second half of 2026. It is also advancing a heterojunction (HJT) solar cell plant in Jeffersonville, Indiana, where Phase I trial production (2.1 GW) is expected to begin in April 2026. A second phase, scheduled for late 2026, will lift total U.S. cell capacity to 6.3 GW.
Canadian Solar said 2026 would be a “transition year” for its U.S. business, citing temporary constraints in the supply of domestically compliant solar cells and elevated input costs. The company expects its own cell production ramp-up in the second and third quarters to ease these pressures.
For the first quarter of 2026, Canadian Solar forecasts revenue of $900 million to $1.1 billion, with gross margins of 13% to 15%. Module shipments are expected at 2.2–2.4 GW, while battery energy storage shipments are projected at 1.7–1.9 GWh.
The company is simultaneously strengthening its position in the energy storage market through its e-STORAGE division, which reported a contracted backlog of $3.6 billion as of mid-March 2026, providing multi-year revenue visibility.
Recent developments highlight this momentum. Canadian Solar secured a 500 MW / 2,493 MWh battery storage project with a major U.S. utility, with deliveries scheduled between March and July 2027. It also signed agreements for over 500 MWh of storage projects in Texas and completed the sale of a 200 MWh battery storage facility in Texas earlier this year.
Globally, Canadian Solar’s development pipeline stood at 24.4 GW of solar and 83.5 GWh of battery energy storage as of end-2025, with North America accounting for a significant share. The company continues to monetise assets selectively while expanding its operating portfolio to generate stable, recurring electricity revenues.
Through its dual-segment structure—manufacturing and its Recurrent Energy development arm—the company is increasingly positioning storage alongside solar as a core growth driver, particularly in markets requiring grid flexibility and data centre support.
