Solar panel demand up 182% as energy price fears grow, finds Glow Green – The Intermediary

Data from Glow Green has found that interest in solar panels rose by 182% year-on-year as homeowners respond to rising energy costs and global uncertainty.
The rise in demand comes as more homeowners look to renewables to protect themselves from energy price increases.
Lloyd Greenfield, renewables expert at Glow Green, said: “With global tensions rising and the situation in Iran putting pressure on fuel and energy prices, we may be on the brink of another shift in the UK’s renewable energy market.
“During the Ukraine conflict, rising wholesale gas prices led many homeowners to seek renewable alternatives, triggering an unexpected solar panel shortage across the UK.
“If current trends continue, we could see a similar pattern emerge again where growing demand for solar panels outpaces supply.”
Greenfield added: “Supply and demand constraints can change rapidly in times of uncertainty, and as energy prices climb, we predict more households are likely to explore solar as a long-term way to stabilise their energy bills.”
Greenfield urged homeowners to treat solar as part of their wider energy plan.
He advised that with demand for solar panels rising, households should act sooner rather than later, as checking quotes and availability now can prevent delays later in the year.
He noted that using a smart meter or energy monitor can help identify which appliances use the most electricity and provide immediate savings.
Greenfield added that draught-proofing doors and windows, along with insulating lofts and walls, can make a real difference to heating bills and comfort.
Additionally, he said smart thermostats and timers help ensure you only heat rooms when needed, which reduces unnecessary energy use and cuts bills.
He added that choosing A-rated fridges, freezers, or washing machines is a long-term investment in lowering household energy costs.
He advised households to look into Government grants, tax breaks, and incentives for energy efficiency and renewables, as these can make upgrades more affordable.
Greenfield said pairing solar panels with a battery helps households store energy and reduce reliance on expensive grid electricity, particularly during peak times.
He also noted that shorter showers, fixing leaking taps, and insulating hot water tanks are small changes that add up to noticeable savings over time.
Greenfield said: “With solar panel demand surging, households that plan will be better prepared if supply becomes tight.
“Families across the UK are already seeking quotes, checking stock, and upgrading their homes, showing that early action can make a real difference in managing energy bills and avoiding last-minute stress.”
