Coal India Approves ₹3,160 Crore Guarantee for CRAUL 875 MW Solar Project – PSU Connect

Kolkata, March 23, 2026: Coal India Limited (CIL) has announced that its Board has approved providing a corporate guarantee of up to ₹3,160 crore to its subsidiary CIL Rajasthan Akshay Urja Limited (CRAUL). The guarantee will fund the CAPEX of CRAUL’s 875 MW solar PV project, marking a significant step in CIL’s renewable energy initiatives.
CRAUL is a joint venture between Coal India (74% equity) and Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RRVUNL) (26% equity), a state-owned energy company. The guarantee is provided at arm’s length, reflecting the majority holding of CIL in the joint venture.
The move aligns with CIL’s strategic diversification into renewable energy while supporting India’s transition to clean energy. The guarantee covers potential liability for CIL if CRAUL defaults on its debt obligations, limited to the approved amount of ₹3,160 crore.

B. P. Dubey, Executive Director (CS) and Compliance Officer at CIL, stated that this decision underscores Coal India’s commitment to sustainable energy projects and adherence to regulatory norms under SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015.
This announcement has been filed with both the Bombay Stock Exchange (Scrip Code 533278) and National Stock Exchange of India (ISIN INE522F01014) in compliance with disclosure requirements.
