Argentina’s solar photovoltaic (PV) sector is beginning to unlock a new phase in the country’s power system: the deployment of battery energy storage. This shift is driven not only by public tenders such as AlmaGBA (713 MW awarded in 2025) and the ongoing AlmaSADI call (700 MW expected this year), but also by opportunities identified by market players across the country.
“Now that the solar sector is moving, storage comes alongside it. We are quite close, in terms of timing, to the evolution of storage and how to implement viable solutions,” said Marcos Donzino, Head of Sales South America at JA Solar, during an interview at Future Energy Summit (FES) Argentina.
“To continue advancing, all solar PV projects will require storage integration. We see strong opportunities both in utility-scale and in the commercial and industrial (C&I) segment, particularly once Argentina introduces time-of-use tariffs, where the role of energy traders could become increasingly relevant,” he added.

Against this backdrop, JA Solar aims to replicate its expertise in the global PV market—where it holds a 14% market share, nearly 300 GW of cumulative shipments, and 100 GW of annual manufacturing capacity—to position itself with integrated solar-plus-storage solutions.
“The key advantage we want to offer is a unified solution under a single contract, where JA Solar can provide cross-guarantees between modules and storage systems. This significantly reduces uncertainty and risk, improving financing conditions,” Donzino explained.
On the solar side, the company is focusing on bifacial TOPCon modules and efficiency improvements, namely, increasing panel output while maintaining standard module size.
“Our strategy is not to introduce entirely new technologies in the short term, but rather to continue improving module efficiency. We have a strong track record with this type of panel, and it performs very well, so we want to maintain that path,” he noted.
On the storage side, the company offers modular, parallelisable 260 kWh solutions for the C&I segment, as well as 5 MWh containerised systems for utility-scale projects.
The executive also identified opportunities in sectors such as mining and agribusiness, where solar-plus-storage solutions are particularly valuable due to limited grid access.
“In mining, there is demand for solar panels adapted to high-dust environments, combined with storage systems. There are also opportunities in vineyards, where sustainability is increasingly important for products exported to Europe,” he said.
“There are projects across all provinces, each with its own characteristics—not only environmentally but also in terms of application. What matters is having a versatile model that can adapt to different conditions,” he added.
Looking ahead, Marcos Donzino emphasised that the company will focus on expanding its solutions and strengthening its market position in both utility-scale and C&I segments in Argentina.
“The wheel is already turning. Now the goal is to scale it up and accelerate it. That means continuing to grow with our distributors, increasing volumes, and expanding the range of projects and applications in the country,” he stated.
“Additionally, developing utility-scale BESS projects is a key objective for us this year,” he concluded.
