The City of Syracuse has partnered with EnergySmart CNY and Solar Simplified to introduce the Syracuse Community Solar program, which allows residents to save on their electric bills by subscribing to a share of a local solar farm. The program is designed to help both homeowners and renters benefit from solar energy without having to install panels on their own property.
As energy costs continue to rise across New York state, the Syracuse Community Solar program provides an accessible way for residents to reduce their utility bills and support renewable energy. The program targets both lower-income households and businesses, helping to make solar power more equitable and inclusive.
Through the Syracuse Community Solar program, residents can subscribe to a portion of a local solar farm. Instead of generating electricity on their own property, the solar energy is produced off-site and then credited directly to the participant’s utility bill. Households can expect to save around 10% on their electric bills, with even higher savings of up to 20% for income-qualified participants. The enrollment process is simple and takes just a few minutes online, with no upfront costs, installation, or second bill required.

The City of Syracuse is actively promoting the Community Solar program and encouraging residents to sign up. The program is expected to continue expanding to include more local solar farms and provide savings to an increasing number of households and businesses.
The Syracuse Community Solar program demonstrates how cities can partner with renewable energy providers to offer accessible and affordable solar power options to all residents, including renters and lower-income households. By tapping into off-site solar generation, the program makes the benefits of solar energy available to a wider community without the need for individual home installations.
