A new solar panel assembly facility in Texas is now operational, according to a report from Solar Power World. The plant, which has been under development for several years, will dedicate its entire output to projects developed by its parent company.
The initial production line at the facility has an annual manufacturing capacity for utility-scale solar panels of 400 megawatts. A second line should be commissioned by this summer. The physical plant occupies 150,000 square feet and has the potential to expand its total annual production capacity to 1.4 gigawatts.
The operation is backed by a holding company with interests in sustainable energy and real estate. This parent entity is also involved in financing solar projects and currently has over 3.5 gigawatts of utility-scale solar power in active development. The holding company requires solar panels that are manufactured in the United States and comply with specific federal regulations.
The founder of the panel assembly company stated that the organization is fully owned and controlled within the United States. The majority of the solar projects are owned by a related family office, which emphasizes a focus on internal control.
The holding company and an associated power producer have previously finished several mid-sized solar installations across Texas. Larger projects within the ERCOT grid are expected to become operational before the end of the year, with some panels supplied by the new assembly plant. The panels being manufactured are a 545-watt PERC model.
The assembly plant currently has a workforce of 50 employees, with more personnel being added to support additional shifts. Company leadership expressed confidence in sustained demand, noting that the parent company’s need for panels exceeds the current supply from the new facility.
