Passerby calls for help after solar panel on Champaign house catches fire – wandtv.com

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) – A passerby is being credited with calling in a house fire in Champaign this morning. 
The Champaign Fire Department was called to the 1300 block of W. Ridge Ln. at 10:47 a.m. 
A passerby saw fire coming from a two-story home. Smoke and fire was coming from a solar panel on the home’s roof. 
Hose lines were used to get the fire put out. The fire was contained to the solar panel on the outside of the house. 
The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental and was attributed to the solar system on the house, CFD said. No injuries were reported. No one was home at the time of the fire.
