TERI, an India-based research institute, has released a baseline assessment of the Renkube-PJTSAU Agri-PV pilot in Telangana under the Responsible Energy Initiative India. The report evaluates whether solar power generation and active agriculture can function together in semi-arid and water-stressed conditions. As per TERI, the pilot involved a 10.8 kWp elevated Agri-PV system at the Hyderabad experimental farm of Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU), with the panels positioned at nearly 3.2 meters to support mechanized cultivation beneath the structure. The study, conducted during 2022–2024, covered 15 crops over several seasons and compared electricity generation, agricultural productivity, and water use with those recorded under open-field conditions. TERI said semi-transparent panels delivered 23% higher specific energy yield, while average crop yields remained at 97.8% of open-field levels. The assessment also recorded about 16% lower reference evapotranspiration, up to 25% irrigation water savings, and a Land Equivalent Ratio of 1.78, rising to 2.34 under enhanced configurations.
