Welspun New Energy has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Solar Energy Corp. of India (SECI) for a 200 MW solar project paired with a 400 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The agreement marks the company’s first PPA incorporating energy storage.
Welspun New Energy secured the capacity in a SECI auction last year at a tariff of INR 2.86/kWh. With this addition, its total contracted portfolio has reached 1.6 GWp.
As per the tender requirements, each 1 MW of solar capacity must be supported by at least 500 kW/2 MWh of energy storage. The projects can be set up anywhere in India and must connect to the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS).
