Meta partners with developer on 800-acre solar farm in Anderson County – KLTV.com

ANDERSON COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) – Meta has partnered with a developer to bring more than 850 acres of solar development to Anderson County The project is located in Tennessee Colony on FM 2054.
Work is underway on a solar farm as Meta works with developer Zelestra to convert the land into a solar energy facility.
“These solar panels are going to track the sun, so you end up being able to store more energy,” County Judge Carey McKinney said.
McKinney said projects like these help boost the Texas grid. The project would produce around 176 megawatts of energy. One megawatt can power anywhere between 400 and 900 homes a year.
Kevin Pinch’s yard will soon be covered with solar panels. Right now there are signs of work on the land. Not far away, workers are burning debris, a home is being demolished and trailers are on site.
“Didn’t have a clue until we spent the money and purchased the land,” Pinch said.
The project is in Commissioner Rashad Mims’s precinct. The so-called “Skull Creek” project will be on both sides of FM 2054. Mims said they have worked so a cemetery will still be accessible.
“Lot of people come in from the cities, Dallas Fort Worth or whatever, they come back to bury their family here,” Mims said.
The county has agreed to a tax abatement with the project. McKinney said the project will add anywhere from $90 million to $147 million to their tax base. For the first 10 years, developers will pay the county $109,000.
“If the county didn’t do a tax abatement, we would have no way to regulate them,” McKinney said.
He said that construction will start in June 2026, and is expected to be complete by August 2027. Construction jobs will employ about 90 people during that time.
McKinney said developers will have to support local firefighters with training and monetary support. They will also have to commit to road maintenance.
Country roads are starting to look different.
“We moved out here ‘cause it was all trees and pastures and cows and cattle running around, and horses; now it’s going to be who knows what,” a resident said.
Developers expect the project to be online by August of next year.
