COLUMBUS TOWNSHIP— A proposed solar farm project slated to be installed behind a Route 6 business is already receiving disapproval from local residents.
During a recent Columbus Township meeting, a handful of residents voiced their concerns over the potential project, which is allegedly being installed behind Happ’s Discount Grocery, 45870 Route 6.
While community members are vocally objecting to the project and want more information, township officials told the crowd they can only do so much with county-level issues such as this.
“The solar farm project is zoned by [Warren] county, there is nothing you can do except attend the county-level hearings about it,” said Chris Lyon, township secretary and tax collector.
Residents with concerns about the solar panel farm are being invited to an upcoming Warren County Commissioners meeting where this issue will be addressed.
The meeting will be on Tuesday, May 5, at 5:30 p.m. at the Warren County Courthouse, 204 4th Ave., Warren. Residents are being directed to go to the Commissioners’ Conference Room, located on the first floor.
Columbus resident Bruce Jaquith is encouraging residents to put up signs and pass out flyers to raise awareness to the issue.
This is not the same solar panel farm debate that has been unfolding in the city of Corry.
On April 3, a public hearing was held by Corry City Council on a proposal by Solar Flats LLC to construct a 3-megawatt AC solar energy facility on about 16 acres of land along South Shady Ave, property that is owned by Troyer Growers Inc., and located within the city limits.
